HOT TABLES

Women in Finance launched their monthly “Hot Table Dinner” events on 26 July 2006 with great success.

Each Women In Finance Hot Tables evening includes a Guest Speaker, networking time, a 3-course dinner, soft drinks and wine.

These events are held every month and are attended by about 80-100 people.
Venue: Sunnyside Park Hotel, Parktown
Time: 17h00-21h30

The idea of these evenings is to offer guests an inspirational discussion with an expert in their field in an intimate small group environment. These events are run as learning and networking opportunities.

The event is open to all women and men whether they are in corporate business or an SMME.

How does it work?

Guests choose a table of ten to begin with and then move to a different table after each course.  There is a break between each course to network, stretch your legs and to have time to move to the next table of your choice.

Table Hosts remain at the tables allocated to them and network with the guests that join them over the 3-courses, share their expertise and facilitate the networking introductions at the table.

This process allows for  intimate interaction with at least 30 people.

Hosting a Table:

Experts are selected from a range of fields…
Marketing, PR, Advertising, Finance, Investment, Ecommerce, Publishing, Networking, Sales, Promotions, Government, Etc.

Hosts are entitled to the same benefits as a Corporate Member.  They are entitled to distribute marketing material and erect banners on the evening.

Some feedback received after these events are…

“Thank you for an excellent evening last night. Well presented, organized and just the best networking happening there.”
“I loved it.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed last Tuesday. It was eye-opening and the table discussions were very stimulating. I hope to become a regular at these Women in Finance events.”
“Many thanks for allowing me to attend the event last night and for the opportunity to meet so many interesting people.  Also:  thanks to all involved in the planning and helping to make the evening the success it was.”
“You have a good thing going there.”
“Thank you very much for the evening. We really had a fabulous time. I also got so many opportunities that I never thought I would get by coming to your function. Thanks so much!!!”

MY GENIUS

MyGenius is a community that supports individuals in business, recognises their genius, opens opportunities for them, helps fine tune their strategy and helps individual business owners take their businesses to new levels.

The MyGenius online community and offline processes challenge members to imagine new possibilities, supports members in the struggle to find new heights and celebrates with members when victories are achieved.

This proposition is delivered through a website which enables networking in local and global communities and through offline meetings of MyGenius members. MyGenius is owned by MyGenius Networks Ltd., based in the United Kingdom.

At the core of the MyGenius offer to individual business owners is the business coach, facilitating gatherings of MyGenius members, in two formats. Firstly, in a Venturer Group meeting, up to fifteen members meet to network, build their online brands, build their private networks and take their marketing to new levels. Secondly, in Genius Strategy Groups, six members meet with a business coach to fine tune their strategy, support each other’s projects, develop bigger goals and account to each other on performance.

The MyGenius online and offline proposition is designed to respond to the following global trends:
The massive growth of the individual business owner market;
The surge in the growth of broadband internet;
The general move toward a digital workstyle;

The well-known need that individual business owners struggle on their own, would benefit from fresh views on their challenges, need to network productively, would benefit from collaboration and need clarity on their strategy.

Women in Finance want to both deepen their relationship with existing paid members and substantially grow their paid membership base.

MyGenius would like to offer a simple basis for achieving both by offering Women in Finance their own MyGenius community, with access to all the functionality for its own organisational purposes.

SHAPING YOUR BEST SELF WORKSHOP

The purpose of this personal development plan is to provide the first preparatory step for the Women in Finance Mentorship Programme.

This one day workshop will lay a foundation to allow people to assess themselves and their career in depth, and come up with focussed goals, both personal and professional, that will have a business spin-off.

These findings will provide a starting benchmark and criteria list to focus on during the Mentorship Programme

Who will benefit most?

Individuals who wish to take their career to the next level or seek overall growth.

The design caters for the “whole you” on the basis that people who have harmony between the personal and the professional bring their best selves to the work place, achieving a healthy work life-balance.

Input - is about who you are and what has shaped your life so far? What informs your beliefs? You may have various sources of feedback. We encourage participants to do pre-work if possible and reflect who they are through an exercise called Reflected Best Self: play to your strengths.

Throughput

is a process tool (Your Best Year yet) which methodically assist you to review your last year, in terms of your achievements or goals. In this process, you identify the major roles you play in your life and what values underpin your choices. Attached to your various roles are goals which the tool assists you to plan how to fulfill those goals in the future.

Output

It is the action plan to achieve the goals. It is made up of the three parts indicated previously: the daily practice, the relationship focus and what formal learning might support your progress.

In the last part of the workshop the participant produces a practical activity plan with three components:

1.
Practice: what will I do differently on a daily basis to make progress towards my goals?
2.
Relationship: identify relationships with people internal or external with whom to engage pro-actively as part of the plan to fulfill individual goals.
3.
Formal learning: finding a course that will assist in achieving goals, which is extremely useful and should be done, but only if it is complemented with practice and relationship activities.

Benefits:
Ownership and accountability
Goal attainment
Supports interventions
Integration of professional and personal goals

MENTOR & MENTEE DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

The mentoring training is designed for both mentors and mentees and focuses on how to have a purposeful conversation and sharing skills.

Purpose

Mentoring allows the opportunity for 100% customised and relevant development to occur for anyone.

It fast tracks career development and is a valuable tool to share experiences and grow individuals.

Who will benefit the most?

Anyone who wants to grow their career or develop themselves will benefit from mentoring. Mentors also receive meaningful benefits from growing their knowledge and skills, as well as enjoying the experience of the contribution. Mentoring in mentee driven, it is an opportunity to further develop strengths and remove limitations.

The Mentoring program is a combination of international best practise and local input, feedback and innovation. Informal mentoring has and will continue to be an important development tool. The formal program introduces a full day of experiential training to develop the core skills of mentoring as well as to provide a model for mentoring that can be used by both mentors and mentees.

Three styles of mentoring are included in the program:
Induction
Skills transfer
Sponsorship & guidance

These differing types support a host of mentoring opportunities. For example a mentor is typically considered to be a senior manager in the organisation; however a program that includes skills transfer mentors would allow anyone of any age or seniority to learn niche skills from mentors. For instance a senior manager may benefit from being mentored by a young technology guru or high quality public speaker.

Mentors will be surprised how much insight and learning they gain from the process.
